Preparation: 15 minutes Cooking Time: 12 minutes
Ingredients:
- Sesame Oil – 1/4 cup
- Tomato – 2 large (cut into pieces)
- Tamarind – a small piece (Optional)
- Small onion – 6 or Red onion – 2 tbsp
- Red Chili – 8-10 ( as per your taste)
- Garlic – 5 cloves
- Ginger – a small piece ( a cashew nut size)
- Curry Leaves – 1 string
- Mustard seeds – 1/2 tbsp
- Asafoetida (Hing) – 1 pinch
- Salt – as required
Steps to Cook:
- Add tomato, onion, garlic, red chili, ginger, tamarind and salt to taste in a mixer-grinder and grind it to fine coarse paste.
- Take a pan, add 1/4 cup of sesame oil and allow it to heat on medium flame.
- Add mustard seeds and when you see it popping, add curry leaves and a pinch of Asafoetida.
- Then, add the grinded mixture to the hot oil and let it cook under medium heat for 12 minutes. Close the lid, so that it does not splash around.
- After 10 minutes, you can see the oil oozing out and see a very beautiful texture.
- Now, the chutney is ready to serve with Idly or Dosa or Adai.
